Gerlach earns "Spirit of Enterprise" award
WASHINGTON - Congressman Jim Gerlach, R-6th Dist., Tuesday earned his seventh
consecutive Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce.
Gerlach was recognized for his outstanding support in 2009 of legislation aimed at creating jobs and helping businesses grow.
Lawmakers
qualify for the award if they have supported the Chamber’s position on
at least 70 percent of key business and jobs votes.
Gerlach scored 87 percent in 2009 and has a cumulative score of 88 percent during his four terms.
"Creating
opportunities for men and women in the 6th District to find jobs and
pursue their dreams of owning a business or expanding their companies
has always been one of my priorities as a public servant,” Gerlach said.
"I
am extremely thrilled that the U.S. Chamber has once again recognized
my commitment to passing common sense policies that foster job growth
and a climate in which businesses can thrive.
"Congress still
has a lot of work to do to reinvigorate our economy after one of the
most challenging periods in our nation’s history. I stand ready to work
with my colleagues to put in place incentives for creating jobs and
empowering entrepreneurs and allowing individuals and business owners
to keep more of their hard-earned money rather than sending it to
Washington.”
Thomas J. Donohue, Chamber President and Chief
Executive Officer, said the business community depends on solid
partnerships on Capitol Hill to help grow the economy and create new
jobs for hardworking Americans.
"The Chamber applauds
Representative Gerlach for supporting the private sector and job growth
through these difficult times,” Donohue said.
"He has demonstrated great courage and we commend him.”
This is the 22nd year that the U.S. Chamber has formally honored the accomplishments of this select group of lawmakers.
